Shell Information
|
We buy shells from the two most reputable shell suppliers
in the UK and are probably now their biggest clients. All
our shells come with ecological certification and are sustainable.
Scroll through our listings and it won't take you long to
realise that most of these products have been partially
eaten first. and that's the way we want to keep it. Our
best selling starfish are washed ashore and our children
understand the importance of preservation as well as we
do. Charitable donations through our shops are weighted
towards the RNLI and marine conservation. We only sell online
a small proportion of the shells we sell in our shops, so
if we're too far to pop down and visit, please call Jamie
or Tim on 01202 683319 or email at info@dorsetgifts.com
if you can't find what you're after but you know it's out
there and want to purchase from a reputable shell supplier.
We have large corporate accounts and frequently sell our
shells to wedding parties and interior designers. As market
leaders we promise to see you right!!!!

Cat's Eyes - Green Operculum - DG079 |

|
These are great little decorative shells
which can be used in rings, bracelets, picture frames and many more craft ideas. "Operculum"
means "little lid" and these shells would have acted as a trap door to help
protect the aperture of the shell. They do look like cats' eyes too, although no two
are ever exactly the same.

Polished
Mini Cowrie Craft Shells - DG028 |

|
Another super little craft cowrie suitable
for all those uses crafters can put these to. We love the colour of these and think
they make a pretty contrast to most craft shells which are of course unpolished. These
are just that little bit bigger to make a difference, and also look good in glass
display vases.

Small Flat Starfish |

|
These delicate
small flat starfish measure 2 to 3 inches in diameter and
are, as the description suggests, virtually flat. Consequently
they are often used for shell craft work. We recently had
a customer building and designing a shell house who used these
in a frieze all the way along one wall, and they looked great.
Another good use is of course wedding decorations or for nautically
themed dinner parties. In our shop, children will pick one
of these up to buy for home or a small present. Lots of uses,
no excuses.

Flat White Pointer Starfish |
|
A much smaller and flatter starfish but popular for craft
ideas or just a cute little present for friends. They measure 5 to 7 centimetres and are virtually flat.
We have talented craftspeople making picture frames and mirrors with these. They look pretty scattered
in amongst larger starfish in a shell decoration themed home too which we sell on our shell
page.

Turquoise
Abalone Pieces |

|
These beautiful
pieces of Abalaone or Paua have been broken down into shell
craft piece sizes but to show a rough edge, although one that
does not appear broken. These turquoise shells really represent
the beauty of the sea in a colour reflecting nautical and
seaside living. They're ideal for shell craft work but are
becoming more and more popular displayed in glass or loosely
in bowls around the home. You have the rough and the polished
edges on each shell and although some pieces are about a square
inch, others are up to 4 inches long and half an inch wide.
We sell in 200 gramme bags which will be approximately 20
shell pieces. For 500 gramme bags (approximately 50 shell
pieces) the price comes down a little more.
200 grammes - £6.99
500 grammes £9.99

Moon
Shells for Craft Work or Interior Design |

|
These beautiful
delicate smooth white shells are slightly larger than other
moon shells you may see for sale. At about an inch in length
and half an inch wide there will be about 30 in a 200 gramme
bag. They are quite beautiful displayed in many ways around
the home and are used for decorative shell work as well. We
once had a customer decorating a large garden home entirely
on the inside walls with shells and he used a few moon shells!

500 grammes £9.99

Purple
Clam Shells |

|
These purple clam shells measure on average about one centimetre
and you'll get about 400 in a 200 grammes packet. They make a great craft shell or vase display as they
have a lovely splash of purple to them making them really stand out. They also look attractive in a shell
decoration themed home mixed with our white craft shells of a similar size.

Bubble
Shells for Craft Work |

|
Our bubble shells
are sold by weight and often used for shell craft purposes
or indeed placed in glass jars around the home for nautical
visual effect. About an inch long and half an inch at their
widest these beautiful delicate little seashells are light
and white - only weighing about a gramme each, so you'll get
approximately 200 in the 200 gramme bag.

Mini Tibia Craft Shells |

|
We love these
mini tibia craft shells and they work very well with other
white craft shells. Lots of rustic and chestnut browns together
with a few much lighter shells make these one of our best
selling craft lines. They're a little harder to source than
some of our others. They weigh approximately a gramme each
(200 grammes roughly 200 shells) and are on average an inch
in length. Another great shell to mix with the white craft
shell lines on this page.

500 grammes £9.99

Heart
Cockles - Craft Shells |

|
Another great shell line for craft work or to put in glass
vases or other display ideas/areas around the home. These really are beautiful tiny little heart cockles
in a brilliant white ribbed shell. The cockles have of course long been eaten so are of course not included
in the sale! The heart cockle is a tiny little shell so well over a hundred in a 200 gramme bag.
200 grammes - £6.99
500 grammes £9.99

Shell Buttons |

|
Our assorted
real shell buttons come in sizes varying from half an inch
to an inch and in an assortment of the colours you can see
in the images. Vibrant colours incorporating pearl and abalone
shells. Shell buttons have been used for decorative purposes
dating back thousands of years to the times of the Indus Valley
civilization. They would pierce holes in the shells and use
them on clothing as decorative rather than for fastening purposes.
Great colours, great little shell lines. For larger orders

or phone the shop on 01202 683319.
